Course/Subject:
Purpose/Objective: The objective is to design and
build the lightest bridge capable of supporting a given load over a given span using
a given material. Bridges will be completed before the competition begins.
Course Summary: Introduction to bridges,
Laboratory demonstration of truss behavior under loading; Design build and test
model bridges for team competition.
Course Content: Introduction to different
kinds of bridges, basic principles of designing bridges using trusses; Use of
bridge design software. Design and build model bridges.
Experiment: Laboratory demonstration of
truss and beam behavior under loading with active participation of students.
Competition: Explanation of contest rules;
Design and build model bridges for team competition. Testing
of model bridges and selection of the winning bridge using specified criterion.
